Cat lover's summer poem

Cats, cats ... (from the cover of an out of print edition of T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, published by Faber & Faber Ltd., London, 1962, orig. 1939)

    S U M M E R   C A T S

Summer cats are like you and me:

they like to laze in the shade of a tree

          and chill the summer away.

    Summer to them is sacrosanct:

       little else is higher ranked

          on their feline agenda.

On their agenda, ha! is now your garden chair:

dolce far niente is what they care

          about in this season.

    The season is indeed well-suited

they think and know the reason:

          „It's the summer, stupid!”

Lesson for your summer: When your cats occupy your garden chair(s) these days, be happy, don't argue with them. Better take their example and join them (well yes, assuming you've got another free and comfortable garden chair). It's what I have been doing these past weeks, apart from some travelling, and that explains why this Summer Bimonthly comes late and is so short (I prefer to call it succinct). For all and any further details, please consult the picture below.

Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, published by Faber & Faber Ltd., London, in 1962 (orig. 1939). This cover in turn was inspired by drawings that the British author and illustrator Nicolas Bentley contributed to the first-ever illustrated version of the book (1940, same publisher; meanwhile there exist various illustrated versions by different artists and publishers).
